Usability Heuristics applied to teaching math

Show don’t tell!

On my backlog of interesting readings, I came across this article by My Modern Met. It tells how Alycia Zimmerman, a school teacher, has come up with a creative and more intuitive way to teach some math principles to her students with the help of LEGO bricks.

It immediately made me think of “Recognition rather than recall”, the 6th principle of Usability Heuristics. Not only is this a fun way for students to learn math, but it also makes it easier to understand the principles in a more concrete way.
